چکیده

New filtering and spectral interpretations of Singular Spectrum Analysis (SSA) are provided. It is shown that the variables reconstructed from diagonal averaging of reduced-rank approximations to the trajectory matrix can be obtained from a noncausal convolution filter with zero-phase characteristics. The reconstructed variables are readily constructed using a two-pass filtering algorithm that is well known in the signal processing literature. When the number of rows in the trajectory matrix is much larger than number of columns, many results reported in the signal processing literature can be used to derive the properties of the resulting filters and their spectra. New features of the reconstructed series are revealed using these results. Two examples are used to illustrate the results derived in this paper. © 2010 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Predicting the Brexit outcome using singular spectrum analysis

In a referendum conducted in the United Kingdom (UK) on June 23, 2016, $51.6\%$ of the participants voted to leave the European Union (EU). The outcome of this referendum had major policy and financial impact for both UK and EU, and was seen as a surprise because the predictions consistently indicate that the ``Remain'''' would get a majority. In this paper, we investigate whether the outcome o...

A Unique Approach of Noise Elimination from Electroencephalography Signals between Normal and Meditation State

In this paper, unique approach is presented for the electroencephalography (EEG) signals analysis. This is based on Eigen values distribution of a matrix which is called as scaled Hankel matrix. This gives us a way to find out the number of Eigen values essential for noise reduction and extraction of signal in singular spectrum analysis. This paper gives us an approach to classify the EEG signa...

Comparison between Singular Spectrum Analysis and Filtering Methods to Calculate Functional Synchrony in the Human Hippocampus Region

Filtering ABSTRACT Singular spectrum analysis (SSA) and filtering methods were employed to extract the spontaneous low frequency components from voxel time courses acquired with a single-shot, gradient echo EPI sequence, and determine the functional synchrony in the human hippocampus region in order to distinguish Alzheimer’s disease subjects from age-matched controls. Their performances were e...

A Time-Frequency approach for EEG signal segmentation

The record of human brain neural activities, namely electroencephalogram (EEG), is generally known as a non-stationary and nonlinear signal. In many applications, it is useful to divide the EEGs into segments within which the signals can be considered stationary. Combination of empirical mode decomposition (EMD) and Hilbert transform, called Hilbert-Huang transform (HHT), is a new and powerful ...

Change Point Estimation of the Stationary State in Auto Regressive Moving Average Models, Using Maximum Likelihood Estimation and Singular Value Decomposition-based Filtering

In this paper, for the first time, the subject of change point estimation has been utilized in the stationary state of auto regressive moving average (ARMA) (1, 1). In the monitoring phase, in case the features of the question pursue a time series, i.e., ARMA(1,1), on the basis of the maximum likelihood technique, an approach will be developed for the estimation of the stationary state’s change...
